Department of Anatomy is one of the major and oldest departments at the faculty of Medicine which was established in 1996.
The Department is responsible for the delivery of educational and research services to the national and overseas students in the fields of Gross Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at both the undergraduate level: Medicine, Dentistry, Obstetrics, Nursing and Paramedics and post-graduate level: Anatomical sciences and Radiology
Since 2008, the Department provides the opportunity for graduate Anatomical sciences leading to the degrees of Masters of Science (MSc). Postgraduate students are important and temporary members of our department who take part in the activities in the department, including teaching, seminars and workshops. They are also encouraged to present their works at national and international scientific conferences. Collaborative projects with the research centers of Golestan University of Medical sciences particularly Congenital Malformations Research Center, Neuroscience Research Center and Medical Molecular and Cellular Research Center.

Our strong research focuses on the Developmental biology, Neuroscience and Anthropology as the Department researchers work on Cephalometric indices in the adults and infants and also the molecular and cellular aspects of gametogenesis, In vivo and In vitro embryo development, Birth defects and the animal behavior in histological changes of central nervous system.

The Department of anatomy has the major labs: Histology, Cell and Embryo Culture, Histotechnique, Human Anatomy 3D models and Dissecting room.
