Abstract

Background and Objective: The kidney has a key role in homeostatic regulation. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is essential regulator of stimulatory and inhibitory processes for neonatal, post-natal endothelial cell differentiation. This study was done to determine the effect of maternal swimming during pregnancy on VEGF level of kidney in rat pups. Methods: In this experimental study, sixteen Wistar rat dams were allocated into interventional swimming and control groups. In the first day of pregnancy, in interventional group, swimming was performed for 30 minutes a day and 5 minutes every day was added until the time of training gradually reached to one hour per workout. Dams swimming endurance training were performed in 5 days per week for three weeks. Pups’ kidneys were removed two days after birth and kindney tissue VEGF level was determined using ELISA method. Results: Kidney tissue VEGF level in interventional swimming group (133.13 pg/ml) was significantly increased in compared to controls (48.19 pg/ml) (P<0.05). Conclusion: Swimming endurance training increases the pups’ kidney VEGF level.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most prevalent complications of diabetic micro-vascular that causing sensory loss of the legs, pain and disorder in proprioception after destroying of the lower limbs nervous system afferents consequently leads in balance disorder. This study was done to determine the effectiveness of reflexology and Yumeiho massages on lower limb pain and keep balance in females with diabetic neuropathy.

Methods: In this semi-experimental study, thirty-four patients with diabetic neuropathyin lower limb non-randomly divided into reflexology, Yumeiho and control groups. Pain and balance were measured using the visual analogue scale, Sharpened Romberg and berg test respectively that were completed at baseline and after 6 weeks. Six weeks of Yumeiho and reflexology massaging were applied over 3 days in week for 30 minutes on the experimental groups.

Results: Pain and balance of patients singnificantly improved in reflexology and Yumeiho groups in compared to controls (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between reflexology and Yumeiho groups.

Conclusion: Reflexology and Yumeiho massages have a same impact on the pain rate and balance of lower limb in women with diabetic neuropathy.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Coronary heart disease (CAD) is one of the most important causes of death in most countries including Iran. Exercise training after coronary artery bypass grafting and the resulting adaptations increase the capillary density of skeletal and cardiac muscle along with the development of new capillaries and improve cardiovascular and functional ability due to increased mitochondrial biogenesis. This study was done to evaluate the effect of aerobic-resistance training on plasma levels of PGC1α (Peroxisome proliferator 1a) in post coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) patients.
Methods: This clinical trial study was done on 30 male patients aged 45-60 years who underwent bypass surgery. The patients were randomly divided into intervention and control groups, respectively. Subjects in interventional group were received aerobic resistance training for eight weeks (3 sessions per week). Subjects in control group did not receive any intervention. To measure lymphocytes, fasting blood samples were taken 48 hours prior to the bigning of the first training session and also 48 hours after the last training session. PGC1α was measured using ELISA method.
Results: Aerobic-resistance training caused a significant increase in plasma level of PGC1α in the training group compared to the control group (P<0.05). In intervention group, plasma level of PGC1α was significantly higher after the exercise than before the exercise (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Aerobic-resistance training exercise with increasing serum levels of PGC1α can play a role as an effective factor in initiating angiogenic processes and increasing capillary density and be used as an effective factor in various people, especially cardiovascular patients.
