General Information on GOUMS Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Program
 
 
With over fifty years of experience, Gorgan School of Medicine is one of the oldest Medical schools in Iran and recognized internationally. Gorgan School of Medicine administers a broad spectrum of general programs in clinical and fundamental sciences, and it accepts international students to its Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program for the upcoming semester.
 
Medium of Instruction
 
The primary language of instruction for the international Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program at GOUMS during the pre-clinical phase is English. Furthermore, because communication with local patients in Farsi (Persian) is an integral part of clinical practice, students are required to master Persian language skills: this includes speaking, writing, and reading in Farsi prior to initiation of the clinical period; for example, the fourth year of their studies. Courses are offered in either English or Persian during the clinical phase, depending on the relevant department’s decision. Program Duration
 
GOUMS' Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Program is an undergraduate program, which takes a total seven years to complete. This is accomplished in part, through an innovative curriculum of fourteen semesters, comprising of pre-clinical and clinical phases. The first five semesters will serve as the foundation of the students' fundamental medical knowledge. The remainder of the program includes twelve months of Physiopathology; twelve months of Studentship; twelve months of Externship; and eighteen months of Internship periods. The eighth-semester of training is extended by clinical practice, in which students receive training at clinical departments and teaching hospitals. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the title “Doctor of Medicine” (Medical Doctor) is granted to students who have met all training requirements.
