Abstract
It is reported that the rate of congenital malformations is about 2-3% at birth. They are one of the major causes of morbidity, mortality and disability in childhood are later in adulthood. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of gross congenital malformations that were preset at birth. The other factors studied were anatomic locations of anomalies, neonatal sex, race, maternal age and race. This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study, and the sample population was 10000 births. The rate of congenital malformations was 10.1/1000 in our sample 11.8/1000 in male and 7.5/1000 in female neonates. The rate of malformations in musculoskeletal system were 3.8 In CNS 2.8 and in urogenital system 2.5 per 1000 births. It was concluded that the most frequent malformations in CNS, musculoskeletal and urogenital system were cystic spina bifida, clubfoot and hypospadias respectively. The rate of malformations newborns were 14.5 per 1000, 8.5 per 1000 and 17 per 1000 birth in Turkman, native Fars and Sistan racial groups respectively. The results from this investigation showed that there were relations between rate of over malformations, races and sexes of individuals.

Abstract
Background and objective: To determine the effects of duration of second stage of labor on the newborn’s Apgar score in primigravida women admitted in Fatemeh Zahra Hospital. Materials and methods: Case control study on the 120 primigravide women (40 women with a duration second stage more than 2 hours and 80 women with a duration second stage less than 2 hours). The criteria such as pregnancy history, quality of prenatal care and socioeconomical status were the same for the both groups. Patients with preterm labor, cesarean section, multiple pregnancy, malpresentation, malformation and receipt sedation of narcotic less than one hours to baby’s birth were excluded. From this study statistically analysis had done by Chi-square and Z-test and person’s coefficient correlation. Results: Statistically significant relationship was observed between the age of the mothers and the duration second stage of labor, so that, the mothers with more than 30 years of age had prolonged duration in second stage of labor (P<0.05). More than half of the sample population had used oxytocin for augmentation of labor, which this difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: The different studies showed that the duration of second stage of labor was significantly associated with fetal lactate and low Apgar score less than 7 at birth, but didn’t have any role in five-minute low Apgar scores and neonate morbidity.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Neonatal mortality rate is one of the most important health criteria, worldwide. Understanding the major neonatal mortality causes will help to plan for better pregnancy, prenatal and neonatal care systems. This study was conducted to determine the neonatal mortality risk factors in Maraveh Tapeh County in Golestan province, north of Iran. Methods: In this case-control study, according to either death or live in 28th day after birth, 52 neonates were considered as case group and 201 neonates were considered as control group. Data collection questionnair were adjusted and completed for each neonate. Results: Neonatal mortality rate was 11.76, 13.36 and 6.46 per 1000 live birth in 2011, 2012 and 2013, respectively. Five main causes of death were prematurity, events, birth defect, respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis, respectively. There was a significant relation between death and prematurity, birth weight and gender (P<0.05). There was relationship between birth weight and neonatal mortality (Odds Ratio=29.6). Conclusion: Prematurity and low birth weight were the most important causes of neonatal mortality in Maraveh Tapeh county in Golestan province, north of Iran.
