Abstract

Background and Objective: surgery is a stressful experience and in open heart surgery, the patients are greatly faced with anxiety, which has been reduced by different approaches. This study aimed to investigate the effects of aromatherapy on anxiety level.

Material and Methods: This blinded- randomized- controlled clinical trial was carried out on 90 patients divided into two groups of intervention and control. the patients of intervention group were asked to inhale two drops of lavender essential oil and those of control group two drops of distilled water poured on a gauze , for 20 minutes. In addition to measuring patients’ anxiety level by Spielberger questionnaire, we recorded their vital signs. Using SPSS 16 software, the data was described via mean, standard deviation and percent, and analyzed by using independent t-test, paired t-test, Chi Square and Covariance (0.05).

Results: The mean age of intervention group was 50.49 ± 10.92 and control group was 50.13 ± 9.20. Anxiety score in intervention group was significantly decreased from 56.37±5.6 to 54.73±5.42 and in control group meaningfully reduced from 55.18±7.35 to 54.0±7.22 (p<0.05). The mean anxiety score in the intervention group was significantly higher than that of control group (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Because anxiety reduction in aromatherapy group was more than control group it can be concluded that aromatherapy with lavender essential oil have significant effect in reducing anxiety and therefore can be used in clinical situations.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Substance abuse is a universal problem. Iranian Addicts, on average, spend 15 percent of the oil revenue on drugs. Addiction is the cause of crisis and decreased quality of life. The Nurse can support care- giver to select the effective method. The purpose was to compare detoxified addicts’ life quality participating in narcotics anonymous, therapeutic community and who refer to methadone therapy clinics in Mashhad, Iran.
Material and Methods: This three-group pretest-posttest study was conducted on the subjects , selected via convenience sampling, including 27 patients in narcotics anonymous, 27 in therapeutic community and 23in methadone treatment. The baseline and after 1.5 months data were collected, using a questionnaire, and analyzed by SPSS software.

Results: the results show that participating in the sessions of all groups led to increased quality of life. In all eight aspects of program, the scores of Narcotics Anonymous group were significantly higher than those of other groups.

Conclusion: because of significant effect on quality of life, we recommend applying these approaches, especially Narcotics Anonymous.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Preterm delivery is a critical factor in neonatal morbidity & mortality. The present study was performed to determine the relationship between the serum level of zinc& iron and preterm delivery.
Material and Methods: This cohort study was conducted, via multi-stage sampling, on 1033 pregnant women referred to the prenatal centers in Tehran, Iran. The instrument was demographic- productivity questionnaire completed within the14th-20th weeks of gestation. Serum level of zinc & iron was measured by spectrophotometric atomic absorption method and Ferene test, respectively. To analyze the data, we used T test, χ2 and logistic regression using SPSS16 software.
Results: The incidence of preterm delivery was 10.5%. This rate increased to 12.5% and 18.2% in lack of iron and zinc, respectively. There was no significant link between lack of zinc level and preterm delivery (P>0.05), But the relationship between lack of iron and preterm delivery was significant (P< 0.05). Based on logistic regression, there was higher risk of preterm delivery if iron serum level was low.
Conclusion: Given the high impact of lack of iron on preterm delivery, we recommend that the factors effective on intake & absorption of iron be emphasized in reproductive education courses.

Abstract

Background: The management of Psychological symptom in patients and nurses, effective communication with patients are important issues that should be taken into consideration in nursing care. This study aimed to examine the effects of nursing welcome program on the level of stress and satisfaction in patients in the Coronary Care Units (CCU).
Methods: The interventional study was done on 72 patients, who were admitted to CCU at Emdadi hospital in Abhar in 2017. The patients were selected by convenience sampling and were allocated into intervention (n= 36) and control (n= 36) groups. Data was collected using a questionnaire including demographic; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the La Monica–Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale (LOPSS). The DASS-21 was fulfilled by a welcome nurse through interview in both groups. Then the welcome nurse began to implement the Nursing Welcome Program in the intervention group. The level of patients' stress and satisfaction were measured an hour and 24 hours after the intervention respectively. Patients in the control group received routine care without any intervention. Data was analyzed using independent t-test, chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test in SPSS-16.
Results: The Mean±SD of stress in intervention and control groups after intervention were 8.23±3.24 and 11.9±4.20 respectively (p= 0.001). The Mean±SD of satisfaction in intervention and control groups after intervention were 249.26±26.7 and 236.10±23.71 respectively (p=0.031).
Conclusions: According to the importance of nurses' position in communicating with patients, employing welcome nurses as an effective care method to reduce psychological symptoms and increase patients' satisfaction is suggested.

Abstract

Background: Organizational knowledge management requires a structure or framework to identify, extract and document knowledge. The review of knowledge management sources shows that since the late 1980s, several cycles have been introduced in the field of knowledge management, and the Mayer and Zack cycle has been one of the most important cycles. The purpose of this study was to design a model for documenting organizational experiences based on the view of point of Iranian libraries managers in medical sciences universities by using Mayer and Zack model.
Methods: The research method was survey and correlation schemes are used. The population of the study consisted of 209 managers and heads of central and hospital libraries. Sampling was a stratified random sampling method. data gathering was done in 2022 by questionnaire. path- analyses and structural equation modeling was used to data analyses. RMS-Theta measure was used to test the model.
Results: The results of the partial least squares test showed that the gathering knowledge and Knowledge refinement has a significant effect on knowledge documentation. Knowledge refinement had the highest and knowledge application had the lowest impact on knowledge documentation.
Conclusion: The results confirmed the effects of knowledge collection and refinement on knowledge documentation. Therefore, it is possible to rely on the designed model and effective factors of knowledge documentation and generalize the obtained results for knowledge documentation in libraries and information centers.
